Ways
to Pray in Times Like These
“And another angel came and stood at the
altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that
he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar
which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, which came
with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand.
And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and
cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and
lightnings, and an earthquake. And the seven angels which had the seven
trumpets prepared themselves to sound.” Rev 8:3-6 (KJV)
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying
unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from
henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and
their works do follow them.” Rev 14:13
(KJV)
“Daniel
praised the God of heaven. He
said, “Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and
power. He controls the course of world events; he removes
kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the
scholars. He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows
what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light.” Daniel 2:19-22 (NLT)
1. "Lord, do something that will show people
Your glory over all the earth.
“I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples, And I will sing
praises to You among the nations. For Your mercy is great above
the heavens, And Your truth reaches to the clouds. Be exalted, O
God, above the heavens, And Your glory above all the earth; That Your
beloved may be delivered, Save with Your right hand, and hear me.” Psalms 108:3-6
God is
continually at work in our world. Now is
a moment for God to do something that no diplomat, no world leader, no army
could possibly do.
2. "Lord, use these anxious and uncertain
times to bring many to Christ."
“Finally,
brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be
glorified, just as it is with you, and that we may be delivered
from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith.” 2 Thess 3:1-2
God can
use this fearful time to reach the hearts of many—in Iraq ,
across the Middle East, in America ,
among the young men and women of the military.
3. "Lord, guide our leaders to be instruments
of Your will on earth."
“Therefore
submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake, whether to the
king as supreme, or to governors, as to those who are sent by him for the
punishment of evildoers and for the praise of those who do good.” 1
Peter 2:13-14
A
Christian's responsibility to "honor the king" and to pray for those
in authority, transcends political labels and issues—it is a spiritual
responsibility!
4.
"Lord have Your Way and Your Will in the lives of our enemies."
"But
I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless
those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you." Luke 6:27-28
Jesus has
charged us to represent even our enemies before His Throne of Grace. [Note Psalm 76:10.]
5.
"Lord, help Your people model peace in these troubled times, pointing
the people around them to Jesus—at a time when hearts can be reached."
"This hope we have as an anchor of
the soul, both sure and steadfast." Hebrews 6:19
"Behold,
I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already
white for harvest!" John 4:35
This
uncertain time is a life-saving moment—when those who belong to Jesus have an
unusual window of opportunity to announce Jesus to those who don't know Him.
But the window may not be open for long.
6.
"Lord, use world events to open many doors that have been closed to
Your gospel."
"Pray
that God would open for us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of
Christ…" Colossians 4:2-3
God's
plan is much larger than disarmament, political change, or military
victory—He's about getting the Gospel of His Son to hearts and places it has
never gone!
"And the God of peace will crush
Satan under your feet shortly. The grace
of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen." Romans 16:20
