SUFFERING SERVANT

The Suffering Servant of God.

"Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death." Rev 1:17-18

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."1 Cor 1:18

"Evangelism was not so much about seeking the lost as about spreading the fame of the glorious Savior." Moore

"We live in a culture that's ailing. The Church is here to heal it, not to accommodate the disease." Sullivan

Three streams of prophecy: Jesus is the great King; Jesus is the descendant of King David; Jesus is the Suffering Servant of Isaiah. "The place in the Scripture which he read was this: "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He opened not His mouth. In His humiliation His justice was taken away, And who will declare His generation? For His life is taken from the earth." So the eunuch answered Philip and said, "I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?" Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him." Acts 8:32-35 [Isaiah 53:7-8]

"The further process is easily traced. As Philip opens up item after item of the prophecy, and shows its fulfillment in Jesus, the eyes of the eunuch begin to penetrate the Scripture, until, at last, he sees a flood of heavenly light where all was darkness before. His eyes are opened, and he sees the wondrous glory of the suffering Savior beaming from the inspired page which lies before him." McGarvey

Bring them in.

"Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.' So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests." Matt 22:8-10

"It is the supreme discovery of life that we need not punish ourselves in a hopeless effort to earn God’s forgiveness. It is freely offered to all. We must gladly accept His gift of love on the terms offered. A grateful heart will make the best effort to please Him. No longer do we as criminals seek by our own strength to escape our chains, rather as faithful children we do our best to please our loving Father." JHW

Wise men seek Him.

"Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the Lord, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon." Isaiah55:6-7

"I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star." And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely." Rev22:16-17
